A Wise account makes it easy to manage your money across borders, allowing you to send and convert money with low fees. But how does it hold up for domestic use and everyday spending? If you’re wondering “Can I use Wise to pay bills?”, we’re here to clear up all your questions.
In this guide, we’ll cover whether you can use Wise to pay bills, including utilities and various subscription services.
We’ll also highlight some key benefits of having a Wise account, so you know what features to expect.
There are a few ways to pay bills using Wise. Let’s take a closer look at each option and how they might work for your needs.
One of the most convenient ways to pay your utilities, gym memberships or other monthly subscription services is through Direct Debits. A Direct Debit allows a company to take regular payments directly from your account.
You can set up a Direct Debit by providing your Wise account details to the company you wish to pay. Instructions are available both in the app and on the Wise website. Just go to the Payments section and select Direct Debits to get started.
After you’ve sent the details, the company will then set up a Direct Debit instruction. This process can take up to three days, but once it’s complete, you won’t have to worry about making your monthly payments manually.
If you’re paying in a different currency than what’s in your balance, Wise will automatically convert your money for you.
For UK customers, Wise currently supports Direct Debit payments with the following currencies only:

You can also send money from your Wise account to your service provider’s bank account. Here are the steps:
You’ll receive a transfer confirmation via email or in the app.
If you’d like to send regular payments to personal accounts instead of companies, you can use scheduled transfers. For example, you could set a date each month to pay your landlord through Wise.
You can schedule a payment two days in advance, but it’s recommended to do this at least three days ahead. With scheduled transfers, you can choose how often your payments are sent, whether weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or just one-off.
Customers can now use the new Split Bill feature on Wise. Use it to split shared expenses between friends or family whether going out for dinner, splitting the cost of flights and hotels on group trips, or even pay shared rent costs in the currency you set.
It’s worth noting that you can’t get paid for the same request multiple times (reusable links are only available for Wise business customers) and you can only get paid in the currency which you set as part of your request.
With the Split Bill feature, you can manage group spending easily, opting to split the bill equally or unequally.
People you request money from don’t need to be Wise users either, those that are will receive a pay money request on their account and for everyone else, they’ll receive a payment request link - both of which have an expiration time.
Once the request passes the expiration time, you will need to create a new request which will generate a new payment request link.
A Wise account can be a convenient way to pay your bills and subscriptions, whether manually or through Direct Debits.
You can also use Wise to split bills and send and receive domestic or international payments securely and with no surprise costs.
Wise allows you to hold up to 40+ currencies and switch between them easily in the Wise app. Whenever you convert money with Wise, you get the mid-market exchange rate, with no mark-ups or hidden margins. All fees* are transparent and shown upfront, so you always know exactly what you’re sending and receiving.
